Newly agreed projects -

The Friends Executive Committee have considered and approved funding or part funding for the following new projects requested by the Harbour Conservancy.

Approved 27 April 2010 - the Executive Committee has approved financial support for the following to be added to the list below for 2010 :

  • Signage design - development of new guidance on appropriate commercial signage for the AONB
  • Wildlife Club at schools - pilot project to develop after school wildlife clubs at schools
  • Short Harbour Films - two professionally produced snapshot films for use on websites and at presentations "Why is Chichester Harbour so special" "Work of the Conservancy"
  • Solar Heritage (solar powered boat cruising Chichester Harbour owned by the Harbour Conservancy - 50 passenger capacity) - 10 pairs of robust, waterproof binoculars for use onboard.

Approved 26 Jan 2010 - the Executive Committee approved financial support for 2010 to:

  • Footpath maintenance - repair and resurfacing a section of footpath south of Thorney island Sailing Club.
  • Salterns Copse - installation of new post and rail fence around the perimeter.
  • Tree and hedgerow planting - annual programme of 8.000 to 10,000 tree and hedgerow saplings planting during the winter 2010.
  • Survey of the harbour fish - repeat of the fish survey undertaken 6 years ago to observe any change.
  • Nesting Platforms for Ospreys - erecting nesting platforms for Ospreys at Eames Farm and other suitable sites to encourage Ospreys to breed in Chichester Harbour
  • Carrying out a review of the Harbour Landscape Character Assessment - this vital planning document is assessed every 5 years.
  • Junior Conservancy - to extend the successful Junior Conservancy programme which will focus on the Government plans to provide a new, continuous coastal access route. Takes place in the Spring and Autumn terms with 3 schools at KS2(years 5&6) and 2 schools at KS3 (years 7 & 8). Consists of a learning session followed by a debating session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall.
  • Get Afloat Fund - free trips onboard the Solar Heritage for disadvantaged person schools or groups.
  • Community education events - annual photo competition open to the general public and the Earth, Air & Water exhibitions based on the harbour by invited schools.
  • Harbour Creekies - 4 sessions of daytime talks mid week on various topics aimed at the more mature audience.
  • Restored Emsworth Oyster Boat maintenance and running cost contribution.
  • Contribution to publication costs, Harbour News & Guide and Guided Walks, Activities and Boat Trips pamphlet Apr 10 to Mar 11.
